Spinal Adjustments

Proudly Serving Boise & Garden City Idaho

Spinal adjustments are controlled, targeted motions applied to specific joints in your spine to improve joint mobility and relieve pain. Spinal adjustments are best viewed as a complementary therapy, working alongside other therapies like corrective exercise and spinal remodeling traction for a more complete approach. Adjustments typically don’t “fix” spinal alignment or provide long-term pain relief on their own. However, they can be a great way to:

  • Improve joint mobility and reduce stiffness
  • Temporarily reduce pain and discomfort

Adjusting Techniques to Suit You

At our clinic, we understand that every patient responds differently to treatment. That’s why we offer a variety of chiropractic adjusting techniques to tailor your care to your specific needs and comfort level. Here’s a closer look at the three main techniques we utilize:

  • Manual Adjustments: This traditional method involves the chiropractor using their hands to apply a controlled force to specific joints in your spine. The goal is to restore proper motion and release joint pressure. This technique usually creates the “popping” sound that many are accustomed to.
  • Instrument Adjustments: This gentle technique utilizes a hand-held instrument to deliver a precise, quick thrust to the targeted joint. This method is often preferred by patients who are sensitive to manual adjustments or those seeking a lighter touch. This technique does not typically create any “popping.”
  • Drop Table Adjustments: This method utilizes a specially designed table with sections that can be slightly dropped. The chiropractor positions you on the table and applies a precise force in conjunction with the table’s slight drop. This technique allows for a less forceful adjustment. This technique does not typically create any “popping.”

Spinal Adjustments FAQ:

  • Do I have to get adjusted if I become a patient? No. Adjustments can certainly be an effective therapy, but they are not required.
  • What makes the “popping” sound? The popping sound you hear during a chiropractic adjustment, also known as “cavitation”, is not actually the bones in your back cracking! The sound comes from pressure being released from the joint that is adjusted.
  • Do adjustments really put the spine back into place? No. Contrary to popular belief, adjustments typically do not have a significant effect on spinal alignment. Spinal remodeling traction and corrective exercise are recommended if your spinal alignment is contributing to your condition.
  • Are adjustments safe? Yes! Chiropractic adjustments are considered very safe, especially when performed by a qualified chiropractor like Dr. Weiss. To ensure your comfort and well-being, we prioritize a thorough screening process before any adjustments.
